Yesterday 150 Wellington based people who identify themselves as working in the Information Technology space gathered at the Fork and Brewer pub. As part of TechWeek 2017 “Who is IT Wellington” was an awesome event to catch up with old connections, forge new ones, enjoy a drink and platters of food provided by NZRise member companies (please read the list below).

There was a buzz in the air, people really enjoyed the “talk to me about” conversation starter format with many asking whether we will establish this as a monthly Meetup event. There was a fantastic mix of roles, businesses, experience and I was thrilled to see so many women come along.

I even stood on a chair promptly experiencing a microphone flat battery event so didn’t get to say the following:

NZRise is a community of Digital and Technology sector companies who converse online to discuss big issues facing our sector – Procurement, Talent and Exporting to name a few – with quarterly in person meeting events held in Wellington and Auckland. As co-Chairs Don Christie and I meet on a regular basis with politicians, business leaders and government officials championing the Digital and Technology sector and our role as a growing export driver within the New Zealand economy. Extending this to a regular Wellington wide meetup sounds like a great idea – we will just need to find a suitable funding model or format that maintains the momentum this TechWeek event established.

Thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed a great networking experience.

MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this happen! – The businesses listed below plus Ian Apperley and Ed Strafford who individually contributed $$, all donated hard cash to ensure everyone had a free drink and plenty to eat. NZRise – a not for profit society – matched the donations from our sponsorship budget. If you think you’d like Who is IT Wellington to continue do please let me know,  Victoria, Co-Chair NZRise.
