NZRise members have been happily praising the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) for their recent publication of suppliers and expenditure by NZ Owned and Internationally owned companies. The praise for DIA on our message board included comments like:

“Good to see the variety of businesses used.”

“The publication of spend is a big step forward, and one we should applaud.”

To this end NZRise members are thrilled DIA have taken this step and are demonstrating great leadership across the public sector – following Inland Revenue’s lead – by increasing transparency in this manner.

What have DIA released?

Described on their website as – This is a list of New Zealand and internationally owned suppliers signed up to all-of-government (AoG) contracts where the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is the lead agency.

There are 2 x lists of company names, total number of contracts held and a breakdown of total expenditure into New Zealand owned vs Internationally owned companies (below).

Still more to work to be done

This is a great first step but there are still many opportunities for improved transparency of digital technology expenditure across the public service.

You can read our thoughts on areas of increased transparency here. Any questions please contact the NZRise co-Chairs or post a comment here.
